A sad day for Ethiopia – Ethiopian Airlines suffers third fatal accident since 1970.

This is a collection of information regarding yesterday’s Ethiopian Airlines accident off the coast of Lebanon. My heartfelt condolences to all those who lost a loved one yesterday.

The facts

Early in the morning of January 25, Ethiopian Airlines flight ET409 went off the radar just five minutes after taking off from Beirut. According to Reuters:

The Lebanese army said the plane had broken up in the air before plummeting into rough seas. One witness described the impact as a flash that lit up the whole sea.

Are we the last generation to see the rains in Ethiopia?

It’s raining in Addis Ababa today. As I stood at the window watching, I realised how much I loved the rain here. It always brings back many happy memories of my childhood in Ethiopia.

A long time ago, when I was but a little child, my parents took me to the Lion Park to see the lions. I’ve never gone back since then. Not that I haven’t wanted to, I just never got around to doing it.

A couple of weeks ago I decided I had to go sooner or later. When my wife told me that she remembered being able to hear the lions roar on a quiet day, I decided I really needed to go. After all, I’d never heard a lion roar. If they could be heard in Piassa, imagine how nice it would be to hear one roar up close and personal.
